What is Health Information Management (HIM)
The health information management (HIM) field places you right where the expanding arena of healthcare meets the cutting edge of technology. HIM professionals are the experts on patient data that doctors, nurses, and other providers rely on to perform their jobs. This field of study is sometimes referred to as medical records, but as you can see, the opportunities are far greater! With new healthcare initiatives, hospitals, doctors, and other healthcare facilities need professionals that can understand electronic health information networks and exchanges. HIM professionals code, digitize and create electronic patient records while improving electronic data integrity. Some professionals manage the entire process, check for accuracy and secure the information as required by law.
Program Highlights
With a program that has been accredited for more than 30 years, this major offers faculty that is dedicated to your success. All graduates of this program have the qualifications and eligibility to take the nation certification exam to become a Registered Heath Information Technician (RHIT). Another program highlight is that this major offers curriculum that prepares you for employment and education advancement. There are also scholarships available (Foundation Office/application ). At VU, you will receive classroom knowledge and hands-on experience in all areas of the HIM field. These courses to this major can be completed online and on campus.

Applicants, both online and Vincennes campus, must first apply to Vincennes University. Then, applicants will need to complete a secondary application. Information about the secondary application will be sent with your acceptance information for the University.

Accreditation
The Health Information Management accreditor of Vincennes University is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Health Information Management Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Health Information Management program is to prepare students to be successful, entry level health information management professionals. The program will help students develop attitudes that foster growth in the ever-changing healthcare environment. Health information lecture, course work, laboratory, and field experience reinforce the learning of the competencies necessary to work in a multitude of setting throughout the healthcare industry.
